New publication from Dr Yang Hu: Migration and health in China: Linking sending and host societies
Dr Yang Hu has released a new publication titled 'Migration and health in China: Linking sending and host societies'.
A summary of the publication:
Every year, millions of rural Chinese migrate to urban areas to seek work. In this research, we investigated the health implications of China’s rural-urban internal migration. We found that the circular migration of rural Chinese to urban centres and, for some, back to rural areas represents a vicious “health grind”: healthy rural Chinese participate in internal migration, contribute socioeconomically to the urban sectors in which they work and are eliminated from the migratory cycle due partly to impaired health, without benefiting from the very urban economy to which they contribute.
