Professor Karen Broadhurst to deliver lecture in Shanghai September 2018
Child protection systems in advanced neo-liberal democracies – where do they succeed and where do they fail?
Karen Broadhurst will deliver the Zen Young Public Lecture at the International School of Social Work, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai on the 13th of September.
The lecture will consider the successes and failures of child protection systems in advanced neo-liberal contexts, with a particular focus on the UK. As China moves forward with its own policies and systems for the protection of children, this lecture considers what might be learned from the UK experience, but equally highlights the limitations of highly formalised bureaucratic approaches that are too narrowly focused on compulsory intervention in family life at the expense of family and community level prevention.
