DfE Seminar - Care experienced mothers and their children in care – a population-level study in Wales
Dr Stefanie Doebler is giving an invited internal presentation today (21st May 2024) to the DfE on "Care experienced mothers and their children in care – a population-level study in Wales"
The presentation, based on the report of the same name published in February 2024, talks about the evidence that a proportion of care experienced mothers will lose their children to adoption, with infants removed from their care as new-borns or very early in life and that mothers who lose their children to care have higher placement instability and often earlier transitions to independence.
Dr Doebler will speak about the conclusions of the report which state that more support for young women transitioning out of care is needed, and asking what policy interventions have been helping those who were able to keep their children.
